How to Get Your Ham Radio License

Getting your Ham radio license is an exciting step into the world of amateur radio! Here’s how you can get started, along with some resources and options for preparing for and taking your licensing exam.

Step 1: Choose a Study Resource

Many of our members have successfully used the following resources to prepare for their Ham radio exams:

Ham Radio Prep
Ham Radio Prep offers comprehensive online courses that are designed to help you pass your Ham radio license exam with ease. Their interactive lessons and practice exams make learning both effective and enjoyable. Visit hamradioprep.com for more information and to get started with their courses.

HamStudy.org
HamStudy.org is another excellent resource that provides free and paid study tools for all levels of Ham radio licenses. Their site offers a range of study modes, including flashcards, practice exams, and study guides. Check out hamstudy.org to start your preparation journey.

Step 2: Schedule Your Exam

Once you feel prepared, it’s time to take your exam. You have two primary options: testing in person or online.

In-Person Testing at Bentronics
Bentronics in Redding offers in-person testing for Ham radio licenses. This is a great option if you prefer a traditional exam setting and live in or near Redding. Contact Bentronics to find out their testing schedule and to book your exam.

Online Testing
If you prefer the convenience of taking your exam from home, online testing is available. There are several organizations that facilitate online Ham radio exams, providing a flexible and comfortable way to get licensed. You can search for accredited online testing services and find one that fits your schedule.
